Asin cleared by Nadigar Sangam

Asin, who was in Chennai recently has made peace with the Nadigar Sangam for not attending the fast organized by them on on 4th of April. Asin was given 15 days time by Nadigar Sangam to explain about why she could not participate in the hunger strike by the Actors Association failing which she would have been banned from acting in Tamil movies for a year.

She has explained to the Nadigar Sangam that she had to attend a function in Mumbai where she is a brand ambassador. Hence she regrets that she could not participate in the hunger strike this time, but in the future, she will definitely participate in all programs organised by the Tamil film industry and Nadigar Sangam.

The Sangam seemed to be satisfied by her explanation and have closed this matter.

Dasavatharam Movie Photo Gallery

With about five days left for the audio launch of Dasavatharam, the latest dope on what seems like one of the most extravagant pre-release events is Kollywood’s latest interest.

Apart from Jackie Chan and other senior artists from different parts of the country, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will also participate in the mega event to be held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium. It will later be telecast on Kalaignar TV, industry sources said.

The team showed a trailer of the film to the Chief Minister recently. Mr. Karunanidhi is said to have been very impressed with Kamal Haasan’s efforts and congratulated him with a hug and a kiss. He asked the actor, “Are all those people really you?”

Sources said the actor plays 10 different characters and the story is not about one person in different guises.

It is learnt that the story begins with an episode set in the 12th century, and then looks at coincidences. In this, Kamal plays Nambi, a staunch V aishnavite priest. Lyricist Vaali’s lines - ‘Kallai mattum paarthal kadavul theriyadu, kadavul mattum paarthal kalladi theriyadu…” powerfully describe the character’s devotion in playback singer Hariharan’s voice.

The other characters are an American, a Chinese man, a CBI officer from Andhra Pradesh, an old lady, a leader from Afghanistan, a Scheduled Tribes’ leader, George Bush, a Punjabi and one character, who looks like Kamal normally does.

The film apparently has a very simple screenplay sans usual elements of commercial films such as duets and unwarranted action. The actor has dubbed for all the characters, modulating his voice appropriately. Besides watching a lot of video recordings of George Bush, the actor also put in extra efforts to get his tone and accent right. He also took the help of daughter Shruti while attempting to perfect the accent.

Make-up menace

The make up for the different characters took as long as nine hours. However, it would not stay even for an hour. This meant that the actor started his day at 3 a.m., spent time on make up till noon, started shooting at 1 p.m. and wound up before 2 p.m. He would sit straight and drink fluids using a straw with minimum possible movement of facial muscles to ensure the make up was not disturbed.

The still (used here) is to be blown up to form a backdrop at the audio launch on Friday. It shows Nambi chained and tied to an idol of Vishnu and thrown into the sea. Source: Hindu

Kuruvi sings troubled tune!!

Kuruvi song CD’s have been selling like hot cakes, yet trouble seems to have followed Kuruvi Songs. The song ‘Mazha Mozhannu’ from the song is the center of controvery and the problem is all struck in lines of the song. The lines goes as “Thillaiaadi Valliamma, Dhill irrunda vaadi yemma” and this has ruffled the feathers of moral police as Thillaiyadi Valliamma is the name of a freedom fighter.

Thillaiaadi Valliammai was a South African Tamil woman who worked with Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa fighting its apartheid regime. Valliammai joined Gandhi’s movement at the age of 16. Valliammai took part in Gandhi’s fight for abolition of the Indian Poll Tax. Thillaiaadi Valliammai Memorial Hall was established by the Indian Government in the village of Thillaiaadi in Nagapattinam, India in 1971.

Following this Pa Vijay, the lyricist, according to chennai365 sources has come forward to apologize for hurting any sentiments and has said that the name rhymed with the song and he did not know the significance of the name when he used in his song. He has also assured that the name Thillaiaadi Valliamma will be removed from the song henceforth. The song has been sung by Kay Kay and Anuradha Sriram and is a racy number to suit Vijay’s style.

Kuselan goes big budget

What started out as a low budget movie has gone on to become a big budget movie. With Rajinikanth’s name associated with it, the producers are not hesitating to spend as they know that they will get their every single penny back.

Lots of changes have been made in the movie to suit the Super star. Though in the original there are only two songs, Kuselan will have more songs of which Rajini will have 2 songs on his own. Also keeping in mind the popularity of Rajinikanth in Japan, Japanese artists have been pooled in to the movie to give it a Japanese touch.

Kuselan will also have Superstar Rajinkanth romancing with five heroines. It has also been indicated that several prominent Tamil actors, most notably Kamal Haasan, Ajith Kumar, Vijay, Vikram, Madhavan, Sneha, Tabu and Namitha have been approached to be a part of a song in the project.

With all these changes happening in Kuselan, the movies budget has become a whopping amount from what was originally planned. But the producers are smiling all the way, coz this movie is going to be a surefire money machine.

Jaggu Bhai with Sarath now!!

The latest buzz in kollywood is that Sarath Kumar will be playing the lead role in the film Jaggu Bai which was originally planned for Superstar Rajnikanth. There was a huge hype created when poster with Rajini in Jaggu Bhai avatar hit the Tamil dailies in 2004. He had agreed to do the movie under K.S Ravikumar’s direction. However, the project was dropped for reasons unknown. Rajini then went on to team up with P. Vasu for ‘Chandramukhi’ which became a blockbuster hit.

The movie will still be directed by K.S Ravikumar with Sarath in the lead. Sneha has been roped in to play the lead opposite to Sarath. However, the circle close to Sarath denies the news on ‘Jaggubhai’. While the sources confirm a new project of Sarath with K.S. Ravikumar, they say that it is not ‘Jaggubhai’.

Radhika’s daughter Rayan will also share the screen in this film.
