Abhiyum Naanum vs Vaaranam Aayiram - Top 10 songs

Album: Vaaranam Aayiram
Song: Adiye Kolluthey…
Music director: Harris Jayaraj
Singer(s): Krish, Benny Dayal and Shruti Haasan
The song begins with heavy lead guitar sounds but surprisingly sings of soft sentiments! Shruti Haasan has a really powerful voice and she has articulated the words well too. Will be interesting to see how our industry makes use of her voice. Harris has attempted something different here!
Album: Abhiyum Naanum
Song: Vaa Vaa en Devathaiye...
Music director: Vidyasagar
Singer(s): Madhu Balakrishnan
Madhu Balakrishnan is gentleness personified in this song . The music bits are equally soothing. Sings of the sheer joy of a proud father seeing his darling daughter grow up.
Album: Sakkarakatti
Song: Taxi Taxi…
Music director: A.R.Rahman
Singer(s): Benny Dayal, Blaaze, Viviane, Jhaved Ali
This runaway hit has been declared as the ‘most downloaded song on mobile phones’ in the past 5 or 6 year, according to a survey done recently! A sweet ode to friendship with soft beats, typical Rahman stuff we have here!
Album: Seval
Song: Namma Ooru Nallarukku…
Music director: G V Prakash Kumar
Singer(s): Anuradha Sriram, Shreya Ghosal, Tippu, Manikkavinayagam, Mahati, Prasanthini
The song is set to strong thavil rhythms but still it weaves in and out attractively from the rhythms. The nagaswaram, string instruments add their own rustic charm to the song. Each singer has put in his or her own joyous bit. Could stay on the charts.
Album: Guru En Aalu
Song: Vaanam Vandhu...
Music director: Srikant Deva
Singer(s): Krish
The periodic chimes of bell-like sounds add a soft touch to the whole song which is about a birthday celebration. Of course Krish brings a lot of warmth to it. Simple lyrics are easy on the ears.
Album: Dhaam Dhoom
Song: Sakhiye...
Music director: Harris Jayaraj
Singer(s): Krish, Bombay Jayashree
A soft haunting number with the kind of rendering that we have now come to associate with Bombay Jayashree—moving in easy, flowing rhythm. Krish is equally impressive. Songs from this movie have really caught on with the public.
Album: Naan Aval Adhu
Song: Naan Aval Adhu...
Music director: R P Patnaik
Singer(s): Karthik
Gentle tentative guitar sounds open the song and violins, strings, and rhythms blend together to offer a pleasing piece. Karthik’s voice carries off the song well. The ‘saa ri ga paa’ note that is repeated binds the song neatly.
Album: Poo
Song: Choo Choo Maari...
Music director: S.S.Kumaran
Singer(s): S.Mridula, Srimathy, Parthasaradhy
An enchanting number apparently sung by kids and supposedly filmed on them too. The song trips along in a gay fashion. Subdued flute notes, keyboard sounds and drums make it enjoyable to listen to.
Quite an assorted lot of songs we have this time, with some melodies strongly holding on and some unexpected ones making it to the list. And one song which leaves others far behind where mobile downloads are concerned. Shall we scan the list?
Rankings based on :
• Audio sales at music outlets in Chennai.• Radio and Television ratings.• Number of online Downloads.• Ring tones downloads• General Public reactions to the songs.
Album: Jayamkondaan
Song: Naan Varaidhu...
Music director: Vidyasagar
Singer(s): Hariharan, Madhushree
A soft melodious number rendered with style by Hariharan with a gentle tapering ‘sangati’ at the end of each line. The sarangi notes frame the lines well adding to the listening pleasure.
