Bollywood looks up to Kollywood

Gone are those days when Kollywood was considered to be behind Bollywood in all respects. The scenario has completely changed today thanks to innovative storylines and talented filmmakers rendering quality entertainers in Tamil cinema. The big news is that Bollywood these is turning its eyes to Tamil filmdom now.
Apart from actresses like Asin and Genelia foraying into Bollywood, there is a great demand for quality technicians from Tamil Cinema in Mumbai. The likes of music composers like A R Rahman, director A. R. Murugadoss, cinematographers Ravi K Chandran, Manikandan among others garner great attention in Mumbai. Moreover never before have so many Tamil films been remade in Hindi.
The Surya starrer Ghajini is ready to speak in Hindi featuring Aamir Khan. So is the Vijay starrer 'Pokkiri'. Salman Khan plays the pivotal role in the film. Talks are on to acquire the remake rights of over four films to be remade in Hindi.
Also many corporates from Mumbai including Balaji Telefilms, Eros International, Percept Film Company, Adlabs and many others are keen to do movies in Tamil.
For now, there sure is a red carpet welcome for Kollywood in Bollywood!!!!.

Self praise is no praise and the Tamil film cinema has to learn this. This story is a typical example of the kind of stories produced to give Tamil cinema a feel good feeling about itself. It's no big news that Tamil films are being remade in Hindi. This has been going on since the 1950s. Hindi films have also been remade in Tamil -- Billa, the disastrous Aegan etc are just two of the recent examples. And please be aware that Pokiri was originally released in Telugu. Perhaps Mahesh Babu is kicking himself for not dubbing the movie into Tamil and not just allowing the producer to sell the rights to Tamil films makers (he is wiser now as his films are now being dubbed into Tamil).
And what's the use of crowing about the success of Tamil technicians in Hindi films when none of them are working in Tamil films? They are using their talents for the benefit of Hindi films and not Tamil what is the use of cheering about that? And why are they working in Hindi films? Its because Tamil films do not pay them well whereas Hindi films do compensate the technicians very well because they know it takes a team to produce a good movie. In Tamil films they will not bat an eyelid to pay a top hero like Rajini 10 or 20 croes but will they think of paying 2 croes for the technicians? Hell, even the well established heroines can't get one croes.
And as for imaginative story line, I am sorry but it is still Hindi films that seem to come out with these kind of stories. Have we ever seen a Page 3 or Traffic Signal in Tamil films? And let's face it: as far as the West and the rest of the world is concerned, there is only one film industry in India and that is Bollywood. Even Manikanda, one of those Tamil technicians that Tamil film industry feels so proud about and who is making his money and his mark in Hindi films once told a Tamil magazine (Kumudham I think) that Hindi cinema is Indian cinema as far as the rest of the world is concerned. And this from a Tamil technician...even said about the so called superiority of Tamil films over Hindi films.
