Producer Council imposes heavy charge on TV Channels

The Tamil Producers' Council seems to be on a verge of putting a check on telecasting songs of new films by television channels. In an attempt to generate more revenue for new movies, in a press release, it is announced by the Producers' Council that a fee of Rs. 1 lakh will be levied on channels that wish to telecast trailers, songs and other promotional material of new movies.
However, not fewer than 6 channels have been given exception from this. The channels are Sun TV, Doordarshan, Kalaignar TV, Jaya TV, Raj TV, and Zee Tamil. This decision is taken since these 6 channels are regularly procuring new Tamil movie rights, the press release mentioned. This will come into effect immediately, it was stated.
