Rahman – Age isn’t anything but a number!


he Chennai maestro Rahman celebrates his 43rd birthday today. While wishes from his friends, relatives, media and his millions of fans from all over the world are pouring in on his birthday, Rahman seems to be confined to the coziness of his family celebrating it as a rather private and quite event. Having born as Dileep Kumar on January 6, 1966, the talented composer became Rahman when his family converted to Islam in the late 1970s.
Rahman shot to overnight stardom after scoring for the Mani Ratnam directed Roja although his debut movie was the Mohanlal starrer Malayalam flick Yodha. Immense success of the Roja album brought in popularity and worldwide acclaim to the musician who was later accredited with the title ‘Mozart of Madras’ by the renowned Time magazine. Rahman’s shot to international spotlight came with his association with Andrew Lloyd Webber in the stage production Bombay Dreams. Rahman also made Chennai proud when he associated with Michael Jackson for his ‘Michael Jackson and Friends Concert’ in 1999. He also allied with Craig Armstrong for the Hollywood movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
Rahman was also involved in the music composition for The Lord of the Rings theatre production with the Finnish folk music band Värttinä.
The past year has been no less than a milestone in the life of this acclaimed musician who was nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of Best Original Score for the movie Slumdog Millionaire. As for year 2009, Rahman has an impressive lineup of projects including Mani Ratnam’s Asokavanam, the multi-crore production venture Endhiran and the Tamil animated feature film Sultan, The Warrior including other international projects.
While celebrating Rahman’s success, Behindwoods joins millions of his fans and well wishers in wishing the maestro and his family good health and happiness on his birthday.
