The summer season seems to be getting a move on. April was a bit subdued with Ayan being the only big draw and the normally jam packed April 14 not having any big offerings to make. It did seem for a while that the IPL may keep out the big guns until the last week of the month. But, it is confirmed that Sarvam is ready for this Friday and joining it will be Rajadhi Raja. The trend of using titles of old hits, especially Rajini starrers is finding a lot of patrons, not just Dhanush. This time it is Raghava
Lawrence and director Shakthi Chidambaram who have joined the list. As in most cases, this Rajadhi Raja will have only the title in common with the Rajini starrer, the movie is totally new and different.
Rajadhi Raja will project Raghava Lawrence in a way that is very close to how he is in real life. His involvement in many charitable activities is well known; the lead character of Rajadhi Raja is one who strives to ameliorate the lives of the downtrodden. He promotes education and empowerment. There will be 6 leading ladies along with Lawrence in the movie. They are Snigdha (kathazha kannale fame), Kamna Jethmalani, Meenakshi, Mumtaj, Sameeksha and Kiran. All 6 of them, especially Kamna, Mumtaz and Sameeksha haven’t had much success of late and will be banking on the movie’s success to recharge their careers. Mumtaj, one hears, will be seen in a very strong and different role as someone who rises to power from the lower strata of the society.
Talking about the director of the movie, Shakthi Chidambaram, who has also handled the story, screenplay and dialogue; he is not the type of film maker known for strong, socially relevant subjects and very serious treatment, having made enjoyable flicks like Englishkaaran. Though, the storyline of the film seems to suggest something different. But, the director cleared all doubts saying that this film too will be in his trademark style but will contain a meaningful story. Shakthi Chidambaram has also turned producer with Rajadhi Raja, floating the Cinema Paradise banner.
The surprise element of Rajathi Raja is its music. Karunas turns composer for the first time (we never knew that he had serious musical talent). It will be interesting to hear the kind of music that he has come up with. He has also played a part on screen. Ravi Maria also forms part of the cast.
Raghava Lawrence has quite a good record as a lead actor with his last two films Muni and Pandi doing a fair bit at the box office. He will definitely be looking to keep the momentum going. Let’s wait and watch how Rajadhi Raja works!
