There was great rejoicing at the gates of the Madurai jail yesterday. At exactly 11 am director Ameer and Seeman stepped out of the jail gates to be greeted with loud cheers by a host of film fraternity. Heading the cheerleading crowd was Bharathiraja with a garlands. He garlanded both directors, and then everyone rushed to garland these two Tamil heroes.
Also present to cheer them were Bala, Bhagyaraj, Balu Mahendra, Selvamani, Vetrimaran, Cheran, Kanja Karuppu, and many others from the industry. As they left the jail in a car, a band went ahead of them, celebrating and announcing the release of Ameer and Seeman. It was clear, of course, that they cannot leave Madurai until their hearing comes up, but until then they are free to be in Madurai. From the jail they were taken to a theatre where the celebrations continued. It is inspring to see the film fraternity show such solidarity and support.
