Superstars force theatre owners to decide!

The theatre owners across Tamil Nadu will be reverting to screening to films on percentage basis from the minimum guarantee scheme. This decision is due to the failure of most of the high budget films that starred well-established heroes this year. Some of the films that bombed at the box office this year include: Rajini’s Kuselan, Vishal’s Satyam,
Silambarasan’s Kaalai, and Ajith’s Aegan. Due to this unprecedented failure, the theatre owners who screened these films on the minimum guarantee basis suffered huge losses.
According to the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners’ Association President Annamalai, a new scheme has been devised based on the percentage plan. As per the new scheme, the theatre owners can buy a film for a certain amount.
The gains from screening the film will be shared by the distributors and theatre owners in this manner: 60:40 for the first week, 55:45 for the second week and 50:50 from the third week onwards. In case of losses, the distributors must reimburse the amount already paid by the theatre owners for purchasing the film.
