Vikram Interview: I Have 8 Getups
Q. Tell us about the movie and it’s highlights? A. My character is a super hero character. Speaking on the whole, the film delivers a wonderful message and is delivered beautifully, stylishly, extravagantly and musically with wonderful stunts and this is the biggest film that I’ve done till date. The concept is very interesting and is unlike the seriousness associated with a message-oriented film. The packaging is just beautiful. It’s an interesting role, all the girls will like my character, and all the boys will like Shriya’s character. The film’s a total family entertainer as there is nothing by the way of obscenity and the fine balance between glamour and obscenity is well maintained throughout the film. The kids are gonna love the super hero character. We want all the kids to go watch the film, as we are sure they will love the superhero character. Coming to the songs, they are totally different unlike the routine Item number or remix number or a romance duet. The songs are in a different category and are very peppy numbers. I always say that Devi is full of positive energy and the songs totally reflect that energy and you will find them very interesting. Q. How was the whole experience? A. The entire unit was close knit and whenever we had time, we were always laughing by cracking jokes at each other and that great mood reflects in the mood of the movie. All the new experiences during the shooting of the film are great and right from the day I heard the story, we never felt for a bit that we were part of a big project; rather we concentrated on the thought, the effort, and the energy that went into the film. The song’s are a huge hit in Tamil and are soon catching up in Andhra and turning out to a big hit there too. Everyone was surprised about the songs and they couldn’t believe that the songs have turned out be really good. Q. How about your singing experience in Telugu? A. Well I found that guys in Andhra are relaxing especially with the Deccan Chargers winning the IPL and I somehow wanted to torture you people. So (laughs all around) I went ahead with the singing. But coming to my style, I think it’s a bit different for example take the case of Udit Narayan. He isn’t fluent in Tamil or Telugu but his tone while singing Tamil or Telugu numbers resembles an interesting style. Q. your preparations for portraying the character? A. well the character resembles that of a James bond character. He is a CBI officer. I haven’t done any home work for this particular role like observing the characteristics. Nevertheless, for the first time I have observed the characterization of a particular person for this movie. I have watched James Bond movies, the character’s portrayal by Pierce Brosnan- his style, his emotions and the likes. likewise, for this superhero character, which has to portray some hen like behavior, I observed a rooster that I have got at my home for ten days. And let me tell you that I have never observed people for a character but for this role I had to observe a rooster and so this is my home work. That observation basically gave me ideas about its behavior, its movements and the likes and that I used for the movements in a fight that was to resemble the behavior of a chicken. Q. what about the Characterizations? A. The characterizations are totally different and they enjoy great variation. The main thing that one will observe is that the characters are very stylish. Normally people don’t shop around the world for costumes unlike they do for location hunting. We shopped around the globe from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, New York and Italy. These costumes were custom made and took about three months to make. Even the head gear was imported from Italy as well. We wanted to leave our mark for the super hero character and wanted the superhero to have a south Indian flavor. We also took care to represent the entire south not just Tamil. Q. Tell us about the promotion of the film? A. We did lots of homework but finally were able to come up with a great movie. The whole movie, be it with the songs, the fights, the publicity or even for the trailer we took great care and tried to leave a mark. For example, just for the audio release function we had around 100 dancers from Italy. Shriya, Devi and Mumaith Khan danced at that function while I sang. This is the first of its kind for an audio function in the country. Now I don’t know what’s lined up for the release but I think they will definitely come up with something great. So It’s a good start let’s see. Q. In how many getups have you appeared in the film? A. It’s not the number of getups in the film that matter. They may be 5, may be 25 but I like to say that they are different looks rather than getups. But the importance is not for the getups it’s for our handling of the subject I think the getups just add spice. Overall, I guess that there are about 8 different getups in the movie.

Actress Suhasini, who has turned film critics with her recent TV show, is all set to direct a Kannada film next. The actress, who spoke to them media in Karnataka recently, said she was waiting for her son to reach university to direct a film. And now that her son is a grown up, the actress has revealed that she would take up the director’s hat for a Kannada film next year. The actress said this at a press briefing about the film Eradane Madhuve, in which she plays a middle aged girl going in for a second marriage. Ananthnag plays her husband in the film.

Highly placed sources in Bollywood suggest that India will soon find a new branch of the prestigious Lee Strasberg Acting Institute. The institute which is one of the best acting institutes is the brain child of actor, director and acting teacher Lee Strasberg. Rahul Rawail is the main person behind the acting institute coming to India. Reports suggest that he has made numerable trips to the US and back regarding this. The talks seem to have proved fruitful because Rahul and his business partner Ahmed Ahsan seem to have obtained the permission letter from the institute to open its branch in the country. Lee Strasberg Acting Institute, which is at the moment based in New York will soon have a branch functioning in India but not necessarily in Mumbai because of two reasons: one due to the mounting costs in Mumbai and two the institute requires huge space. When quizzed about this initiative Mr. Rawail has neither confirmed nor denied the news. A handful of actors as well as technicians seemed to have received invites for enrolling themselves in the institute for the purpose of tutoring fresh candidates once the institute begins functioning. Guy and Gal of Subramaniapuram meet again
Actors Jai and Swathi were acclaimed for good onscreen chemistry in ‘Subramaniapuram’, although there weren’t any Liplock or intimate sequences in that film. Now they’re back together pairing in their next untitled film. The film is produced by T. Siva of Amma Creations directed by Sripathy. Speaking about this Jai has said, ‘Yup! Trisha shares her experiences in Malta Islands
Trisha paired with Simbhu in the film Azhai a few years back. Now they have once again joined hands for the film Vinnai Thandi Varuvaaya. Gowtham Menon is directing this film.
The shooting of this film took place in Malta Islands near Italy for 14 days. Trisha after participating in this shooting returned to Chennai yesterday. While sharing her experiences with the media, she said,” Malta is a beautiful place.
Only Hollywood films have been shot there so far. One song sequence for a Hindi film was shot a few years ago. No other Indian films have been shot here. There are lots of Christians living there. There are 365 churches there.
One can visit one church every day and complete all the churches in a year. All the churches are so beautiful. People there are very good. There are no thieves. There is no violence. In the stores the products are stacked up and price tag is kept. There is no theft and business goes in a smooth way.
Since this is a beautiful place lots of tourists are frequenting there. All the hotels are luxurious and all the amenities are available there. There are Indian restaurants. So there was no problem for our food. One could get tasty pastas and pizzas here.
When the Indian Consulate heard that Simbhu and I had come from India, the Ambassador himself personally invited us for a dinner. The entire crew participated in this dinner. Everybody should visit Malta at least once in life time and enjoy its splendor.”

In Tamil I have acted in 6 films including Thavamai Thavamirundhu. In all the films I understand my characters and enjoy acting in these roles. I am acting as a cowboy girl in the film Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam. It is really appreciable to make a cow boy film in Tamil. It is a great thing for me to get an opportunity to act in this film.

Kamal’s IIT dream
Kamal Haasan’s Rajkamal International and the Indian Institute of Technology have jointly organized a conference on screen play writing. This conference will begin on May 29th (Friday) and end on June 3rd. The inaugural ceremony of this conference was attended by Kamal Haasan, Balu Mahendara, Santhana Barathy, Perarasu, Dharani, Vasanth, Ameer, Priya, Mysskin, Sasi, Crazy Mohan among others.
Speaking to the media persons, Kamal said that he is happy that his long time dream of holding conference on screen play has come true at last. The actor said that he is still a student as far as the film industry is concerned and is looking to learn more. Kamal disclosed that he cut short his studies due to his penchant for acting or else he would have joined the IIT for higher studies, the actor said.

Krish dons RJ role!
Singer Krish wore the RJ cap today at the BIG FM studios for the Dham Dhoom T20 special on-air show. The program is launched to cheer the Indian team participating in the T20 World Cup in England. Earlier, a contest was also organized by BIG FM for fans who are cricket enthusiasts. Krish also was part of the panel of judges who selected five winners. The winner will get an all-expenses paid trip to England to watch the T20 World Cup matches and meet the participating teams in person.
The show was held at 10.00 a.m. in the morning and Krish interacted with the fans on air and was accompanied by the FM’s other RJs.

Suriya’s gangster movie
The script of Hari’s cop flick Singam, with Suriya in the lead, is being developed and it is already being speculated that Rameshwaram will form the backdrop of the movie. With a reason though. It is touted that Singam will focus on the seaward smuggling that Rameshwaram is infamous for. Singam will dig into the details of such acts of smuggling in which Suriya plays a dutiful cop.
Singam also has Anushka, Prakash Raj and Vivek in significant roles. While Suriya is basking in the glory of Ayan’s success, Hari is keen to repeat the success of his previous movie with Suriya, Vel.

Shruthi Haasan is going places with prestigious projects like Luck where she stars opposite Imran Khan. The film is directed by Soham and the music is scored by Pritam Chakraborthy. Shruthi will also score for her dad’s next film Unnai Pol Oruvan.
As per sources, the lady has agreed to do some risky shots for Luck. The Luck crew has flown down to shoot a sequence where Imran and Shruthi would jump into the sea from an airplane. It remains to be seen if the lady will do so without opting for a dupe.

Kamal’s screenwriting workshop gets inaugurated today
Kamal Haasan’s ambitious academic venture, aiming at making screenwriting a specialized field with a week-long workshop, is all set to be launched today, amidst the presence and participation of eminent screenwriters from across the globe.
Being cohosted by IIT Madras along with Kamal Haasan’s Raajkamal Films International, the workshop will be held in the hollowed grounds of IIT. French writer Jean Claude Carriere, Olivier Lorelle (whose film Indigenes was nominated to the Oscars 2006) and Shekhar Kapur, will share their thoughts with the likes of K. Balachander, Balu Mahendra, Gulzar, Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Vishal Bharadwaj, Rituparno Ghosh, Shyamaprasad and Sriram Raghavan at the seminar between June 2 and June 3, 2009.
"I envy the 250 delegates who will get to be there at the ICSR auditorium at IIT to listen to the masters and attend the screenwriting workshop to be conducted by Anjum Rajabali, Atul Tiwari and K.Hariharan," says Kamal Haasan. This seminar will be dedicated to writer Ananthu, K Balachandar’s most trusted writer, said Kamal Haasan.
"Ananthu was the one who got me into writing. Suchitra Film Society would screen films from around the world. Every time films came for festivals, we would hijack the films and watch them," he recalls. "Once I could afford it, I went to the US and spent some time with (John) Truby. He was like my coach. He introduced me to all the tools I needed. Thevar Magan was the first film here to be written with Movie Magic, a screenwriting software." Later in the nineties, he met Luis Bunuel's regular hand Jean Claude Carriere, who went on to become the co-writer for Maruthanayagam. "He then introduced me to Abbas Kiarostami and that was the first time we spoke of mentoring writers and filmmakers. Because not all storytellers make for good screenwriters. Even if Shakespeare was around today, he would have to learn screenwriting. Not to say screenwriting is greater than Shakespeare. It's just that the rules of the game have changed. It took me nearly twenty years to learn what is today taught in film schools. These 250 students we have selected will need just a week to take their first baby step towards writing." The speakers all belong to different schools of cinema. "All the people I have called are people I have learned from even if they are younger than me. Some of them are people I consider mentors. Mr. Balachander has written and produced 100 different films. I wish Mani Ratnam could've come too but he has a film to complete." The workshop is only for selected delegates and the seminar is only by invitation.

The shooting of the film Vairam which has Richard and Navneeth Kaur in the lead took place in Chennai and its suburbs. Recently a song sequence was shot in Bangkok. The sequence was that the hero and heroine were supposed to sail in a boat and they should push each other for fun. But when the sequence was shot both of them fell into the sea accidentally. Since both of them do not know swimming, they started drowning. Since some of the crew members knew swimming they were able to save both of them.
Richard and Navneeth were in a deep state of shock. It took some hours for them to recover from the shock. They took part in the shooting after some time. K Venugopal is producing this film under the banner Vandhana Media. S P Chelladurai is directing this film. He has also written the story and screenplay. Russell has written the dialogues. ‘Gnyabagangal is my friend Kathiravan’s life story’ – Pa. Vijay
Lyricist Pa. Vijay makes his debut with ‘Gnyabagangal’ as an actor. With the film’s songs doing good business at markets, he released the film’s trailer last evening herein Chennai.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, “When I came to Chennai seeking for chance in films, I stayed in Choolaimedu and my neighbor was Lyricist Kathiravan and he was a strong communist in his thoughts.
This sole reason stopped him from getting chance in film industry and he was deeply love with a Hindi speaking girl who stayed near his house. But as the girl was married to someone else, he moved to his hometown. A Year later, I got the message he passed away for suffering from prolonged illness. I blamed myself for not helping the true love get united and thusly made his life into this film dedicating for his soul…”

Pooja changes her plans for better luck
Actress Pooja had all her expectations mounted on ‘Naan Kadavul’… Although, she has been lauded with good performance, she has no big offer on her way.

The film, which will go on floors soon, will be directed by Nandhini JS, a gold medalist from the Film Institute, Adyar. Apart from this, she has also worked as assistant to director Priya V, who has done Kannamoochi Enada and Kanda Naal Mudhal. TTTT is being produced by Sathyam Cinemas in association with Real Images. The film also stars actors like Mouli and Lakshmi Ramakrishnan. Mani Sharma scores the music for the movie. The movie will fall in the genre of romantic comedies. Says the director, It is a romantic entertainer as two people who are exactly opposite meet and love-hate relationship develops between them. Many remember him as the lanky hero who played flirt in 'Mounam Psiyadhay' or as hero in 'Punnagai Poove'. The actor now has six movies to his credit. And despite his last flick 'Urchagam' not being the hit it should have been, the actor finds himself flooded with new interesting roles. At first Nandaa was signed by him for 'Eeram', directed by Shankar’s associate Arivazhagan. This film is being produced by Shankar's S Pictures. It is said that the actor wowed both with his acting prowess that Shankar decided to give him another chance. This time, it was Naga of Marmadesam fame who debuts as director with the supernatural thriller 'Aanandhatha Purathu Veedu'. Naga was looking for a hero and Nandaa bagged this offer too, and he plays the lead in this film which is about the happenings in a haunted house. Chaya Singh plays his wife in the movie.
