Actor Arya, who was drawn into bad light by FEFSI president V C Guhanathan after the controversial speech he delivered in a recent awards function, has found new adversaries. This time, it is the Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK).
The Hindu Makkal Katchi(HMK) has objected to the actor’s derogatory speech against Tamil cinema and people. They protested against Arya by placing a Garland of Slippers on the portrait of him. They also shouted slogans against Arya.
Recently in an award function at Sharjah organized by a Malayalam channel, actor Arya claimed that acting in Tamil was much easy and did not require any kind of hard work. But acting in Kerala cinema industry, requires hard work and a home work from an actor.
The HMK activitists have demanded Arya to seek apology. They also threatened to ban Arya’s upcoming films if he fails to apologize.
Anna Durai, the General secratry of HMK said, “Arya should apologize for his ‘irresponsible’ and ‘baseless’ speech about Tamil films and actors. Arya who earns Crores of rupees from Tamil film industry has delievered such derogatory speech about Tamil industry. If he fails to apologize, we will extend our protestion to ban his upcoming Tamil films ”
Call it publicity or moral policing, HMK has been finding easy preys in Kollywood. HMK recently gave a boycott call against veteran film-maker Ramgopal Varma’s recent film Rathacharithram because the lead actors Vivek Oberoi and Surya toured Sri Lanka for the film shoot, defying the diktat of the South Indian Film Artists’ Association.
Earlier, HMK, along with few other fringe Hindu outfits, had campaigned against actress Kushboo’s remarks on premarital sex, and Mallika Sherawat and Shriya Saran for their indecent attire in public functions.

The film which will unite the two most promising stars is the one to be produced by AR Murugadoss in association with a Hollywood studio. A former associate of him, Saravanan will be directing the film.
And on the male front the film has two of them. Jai will pair opposite Anjali and the other hero is being finalised. The proposed movie will get on the floors in December.

Abbas is at it again. The actor, who hosted a star cricket match in Dubai five years ago, is now busy making arrangements for a new match, which will be held on December 2 at a popular cricket stadium in Dubai.
It will be a Twenty-20 cricket match between Kollywood and Tollywood, in which top young actors from both the south Indian film industries will wield the bat and ball.
Says a happy Abbas, “The match will be played in the IPL format and some leading cricketers will also be present. If it clicks, we have plans to conduct similar matches in Chennai and Hyderabad too.”
Abbas will captain the Kollywood cricket team which is expected to have Madhavan, ‘Jayam’ Ravi, Arya, Jeeva, Bharath, Santhanu, Jai, Vikranth, Nanda and Atharva. The Tollywood team led by Tarun will have Srikanth, Ravi Teja, Allari Naresh and Ayyappa among others.
Meanwhile, RK has already moved ahead and finalized the heroine for his next film. RK has reportedly signed Madhurima, the hot and happening Telugu actress, who is one of the top actresses in Telugu along with Anushka & Ileana. The tall and picture-perfect Madhurima, as and when she makes her debut in Tamil films, could give a run for their money for the top actresses in Kollywood such as Trisha, Nayantara, etc.
RK would pair up opposite Madhurima in his next film titled ‘Kadamai Kanniyam Kattupadu’ to be directed by Shaji Kailash. The film is a remake of the popular Bollywood hit movie ‘Ab Tak Chappan’, which released a few years and starred the versatile Nana Patekar in the lead. The film based on the life of a popular ‘encounter specialist’ of the Mumbai police force.
RK had taken permission from ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan, who produced a film of the same title in the early nineties starring Sathyaraj in the lead, to have title for his film. RK plays a cop in the film. With Madhurimaa opposite him, selling off the film to the distributors won’t be much of a problem, for sure.
Bala’s earlier films ‘Nanda’ & ‘Pithamagan’ were significant ones in Laila’s career which didn’t have a large number of hit movies. Known more for her dimpled smile than for her acting credentials, Laila starred opposite almost all the leading heroes of her times except Vijay. She debuted opposite Vijayakanth almost a decade back in ‘Kallazhagar’.
Despite a mother of two children, she still has her waistline intact and hasn’t put on oodles of weight. Reports say that Bala got in touch with her and asked her to do a small role in ‘Avan Ivan’. Laila, who was said to be awaiting a chance for a comeback, reportedly agreed to Bala’s offer.
In keeping with his usual style, Bala has asked Laila not t commit herself to any other film before completing ‘Avan Ivan’. Laila, therefore, joins Suriya as the second ‘guest star’ in the film which has raised expectations about the film from the fans of all these stars!
Reacting to a complaint by her mother that she was missing from home, young actress Saranya of ‘Peranmai’ fame has said she has been staying with her friend following ‘misunderstanding’ with her mother.
On Monday, Manjula, a resident of Ganga Nagar First Main Road in Kodambakkam, lodged a complaint with the Chennai city Police Commissioner that her daughter Saranya had gone missing.
Manjula alleged in her complaint that Saranya, 22, had left home on the pretext of acting in a movie but had not returned. Though Manjula had been unwell for the last few weeks, Saranya never turned up to help her, she alleged.
Denying the allegations, the up and coming actress said, “there is no truth in my mother’s claim. I am very much in Chennai, busy acting in a film titled ‘Mazhaikaalam’. I left home since I had some problems with my mother.”

First things first, ‘Nandhalala’ is an exact aper of famous Japanese movie ‘Kikujiro’ (1999) directed by Takeshi Mitano. Mysskin has however exerted his influence through the delineation of new characterizations and screenplay. The film’s synopsis has nothing special to mark on with as it’s a road adventure.
It’s an adventure drama as two protagonists meeting various characters on mission of finding their dear mothers. Bhaskar Mani (Mysskin) a half-minded man escapes from the hospital for mentally challenged patients. At a point he comes across a small boy (Ashwath Ram) waiting at bus stop. Situations bring them together as they get on the pursuit of their mothers. The young boy has his mother’s photo and the duo travels to the place of finding her first. On their journey, they encounter some interesting moments and different characters that help them reach their destination. There are certain heart-touching sequences with a physically challenged person, a sex-worker (Snigtha), roadside travelers, a small girl and many others.
As mentioned earlier, Mysskin has neatly lifted the main plot of ‘Kikujiro’ and has embellished the screenplay with his creative conceptualization. The characterizations are one of the highlighting keys of ‘Nandhalala’ as even the minor roles have much prominence to do with the script. Most of the film goes with the visual significance, which may variably disinterest the frontbenchers. Mysskin seems to have adapted K. Balachandar’s techniques of visual relevance.
Snigtha’s performance level is extraordinary, but it’s Mysskin who steals the show with his overpowering acts. He seems to have taken more efforts into playing this role well.
Ashwath Ram is sure to fetch more laurels. Rohini doesn’t get a proper scope and many may not recognize for her different looks.
There are some interesting sequences like Mysskin trying to save Snigtha from the strangers who try to harm her. The ultimate twist in tale goes with the true colors of young boy’s mother revealed during the climax. Though this meaning is unclear during the post-intermission sequence, it is much depicted without any dialogues during climax portion. Mysskin should have ended the film with the same shot as the prolonged sequences are too amateurish.
The handicapped character’s portions are gripping and it’s one of the best sequences. Mysskin doesn’t directly point towards the concept of ‘Love’ between the characters, but conveys them through their natures. A Love portrayed in different way.
Mahesh Muthusamy can be regarded as one of the heroes as his cinematography has more significance. His ability to place shots at unique angles is the major plus. Well for the ordinary audiences, such creative abilities may not be accredited. Ilayaraja’s musical score is biggest assets of the film. Though the background score is quite bleaker in few portions, he enhances the emotions through his music during last 30minutes.
On the whole, ‘Nandhalala’ has more chances of performing well at box office if promoted well. With so many big tickets awaited in the forthcoming Fridays, the results can be predicted only after opening weekend. The film should have a good reception amongst ‘B’ centres.
What works: Performance by Mysskin, Ashwath, cinematography, Ilayaraja, first half…
What doesn’t work: Overdosed visual significance, prolonging shots, and sluggish moments in second half, dragging climax
Verdict: Mysskin’s yet another trademark
Banner: Ayngaran International
Production: Karunakaran, Arun Pandian
Direction: Mysskin
Star-casts: Mysskin, Snigdha Akolkar, Ashwath Ram
Music: Ilayaraja
Cinematography: Mahesh Muthusamy
